International Baccalaureate (IB)

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a globally recognised education framework that encourages students to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners.
Founded in 1968 in Geneva, Switzerland, the IB offers four programmes for students aged 3 to 19 that focus on academic rigour, personal development, and international-mindedness.

At Phuket Thaihua ASEAN Wittaya School, we are in the process of implementing the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP), which align with our goal to nurture learners who think critically, act responsibly, and contribute positively to the world.
The IB philosophy promotes inquiry, intercultural understanding, and respect — preparing students for success in further education and in life beyond the classroom.

IB Mission Statement

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

IB Learner Profile

The IB Learner Profile represents ten attributes that guide students toward becoming active, compassionate, and lifelong learners with a global mindset.
IB Learners strive to be:

  1. Inquirers – They develop natural curiosity and the skills necessary for inquiry and research.

  2. Knowledgeable – They explore concepts, ideas, and issues of local and global significance.

  3. Thinkers – They exercise initiative in applying critical and creative thinking.

  4. Communicators – They express themselves confidently and creatively in more than one language.

  5. Principled – They act with integrity and fairness, taking responsibility for their actions.

  6. Open-minded – They appreciate their own culture and personal histories while being open to others’ perspectives.

  7. Caring – They show empathy, compassion, and respect toward the needs and feelings of others.

  8. Risk-takers – They approach unfamiliar situations with courage and independence of spirit.

  9. Balanced – They understand the importance of balancing intellectual, physical, and emotional well-being.

  10. Reflective – They thoughtfully consider the world and their own ideas and experiences.

How This Framework Connects to Phuket Thaihua ASEAN Wittaya School

At Phuket Thaihua ASEAN Wittaya School, these IB attributes and attitudes are woven through every classroom and year level.
Teachers integrate them into lessons, projects, and community engagements, while students are encouraged to reflect daily:

“Which attribute or attitude did I demonstrate today, and how can I grow tomorrow?”

By living the IB values, our students develop not only academic excellence but also empathy, resilience, and a sense of responsibility — empowering them to make a positive difference in the world.
